Back In The Fast Lane (8)
Its been all quiet on the MTs front as of late, with holidays and work taking their toll. But fear not, in the interim there has been a build-up of big juicy tunes simply bursting to be dropped. Not least from Californian based producer Lane 8. His track Dusty landed in my inbox a couple of weeks ago and proved to be instantly enjoyable. A bit of delving later and it became apparent the San Franciscan’s disco-infused deep house sound was right up my street. Check out his Soundcloud & Facebook for some more love.
Vita Tapes by Viceroy
After a brief sabbatical MTs is back. And coincidently, it just so happens Viceroy has released a brand new mixtape in collaboration with Vita Coco. Needless to say the King of Beach delivers with typical summertime swag. As always, I’ve listed my picks of the mix below. Tracklist can be found on Viceroy’s soundcloud page.
MTs Summer Holiday
MTs is going on a summer holiday. HQ will relocate to Portugal for the week to enjoy the delights of the Algarve. Below is a taster of the sun-drenched tunes coming with us. Their sound doesn’t lie; yes, there will be a roof terrace – and sure, the terrace has a hot-tub. Até brev, meu amigo!
Hot Chip – Flutes (Bruno Be Rework)
From the artist who brought us Big Jet Plane comes this rework of Hot Chip’s Flutes. Bruno Be has to be one the finds of 2012; the Brazilian producer clearly has some serious talent at his disposal. Show the man some love.
Erika Spring – Happy At Your Gate (Aeroplane Remix)
Don’t know how this one slipped me by. He. Has. Done. It. Again. WOW.
Again, thanks to Beancountboost.
Chamillionaire Takeover
This week it’s a selection of my favourite beach anthems in preparation for one last sun-soaked hurrah in the south of Portugal. You’ll be pleased to know I’ve secured some serious funds so you can expect these to be pumped out of the back of the Sunseeker when MTs and the boys head down to the Algarve for some R’n’R next week.
First up it’s a remix off of Beat Connection’s EP Surf Noir. The original Silver Screen flew under my radar when it was released back in 2010 but it’s hard to ignore this remix’s maelstrom of Pan Pipes, Cut Copy-esque oohs and ahhhs and slapped Bass. Enjoy!
I was treated to this beauty last weekend after a particularly brutal bender and could not help but be woken from my drunken stupour by Lana’s uplifting chorus and that Sizzling Sax. Props to Beancountboost for bringing this to me and now you.
Finally it’s my boy Breakbot’s remix of Roche. It’s hard to imagine a more beachy intro – and for those of you who are linguistically challenged here’s a (rough) translation of Sebastian Tellier’s french musings:
I dream of Biarritz in the Summer
The sun shines on my skin
I see girls tanning
I see the blue sky Marry you (!)
And I at once love you
I dream of you and me hand in hand
Love Sebastian
The sun shines and burns my name on your skin
Love the warm wind,I feel the heat of Summer….
Sebastian Tellier – Roche (Breakbot Remix)
Charlie.
Storm Queen – Look Right Through (Aeroplane Remix)
I haven’t been particularly quick on the draw with this one. But it’s my boy Vito De Luca – a.k.a Aeroplane – and he never disappoints. What’s more, he’s playing in the newly refurbished XOYO on the 21st September, and if the line-up’s anything to go by it’s going to be unmissable.
Sorry Beijing
Well, Beijing can jog right on. Last night saw the 2008 Olympic city totally eclipsed by a newly buoyant London. Having enjoyed unprecedented merriments for a Sunday night, MTs thought it would be rude not to hail the rich tapestry of British talent on display last night (I exclude Ed Sheeran from this, Ed Sheeran can fuck off to Beijing). Below is a just a taster of the spectacle we were treated to. Normal service resumes for MTs tomorrow, but will be basking in London’s glory for a while still. Spine-tingling stuff.
