Washed Out’s single Amor Fati comes from their debut LP Within and Without, which was released last month. Amor fati is a Latin phrase loosely translating to “love of one’s fate.” It describes a way of life whereby everything that happens – including suffering and loss – is seen as good. And that mantra is pervasive throughout Amor Fati. It has a distant longing sound that completely envelopes the listener, taking them on a journey through the entire spectrum of human emotion. I’m fucking with you. But I do really enjoy this song, a late contender for song of the year.
I don’t like the X Factor, I’ve never really been a fan of Coldplay and I think Chris Martin is a muesli eating lesbian for calling his daughter Apple. But having seen Coldplay’s performance – of Paradise – on Sunday night, I have had to reform some opinions. Not about the X Factor, nor about naming your offspring after a fruit, but about Coldplay. After all they have made some massive tunes in their time and Paradise is no exception. The song is absolutely immense! It really is, it gets me totally pumped… PARA-PARA-PARADISE, PARA-PARA-PARADISE, PARA-PARA-PARADISE, WWWOHHHOHOHHOHOHHHH!!! You’ve got to love Coldplay.
Someone’s gone and done again. The obligatory dubstep brutalisation…
It’s that time of the year and megatunes is feeling festive. So without further ado here’s MT’s top 10 Christmas bangers!
Coming in at number 10 are The Ronettes. This song comes from the album “Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector.” Phil Spector is currently serving time for the murder of Lana Clarkson, which he committed in the Winter of 2003. Not such a nice gift that time, ay Phil.
The Pogues may not sound the best, but come Christmas they’ll always be in the mixer.
Little ashamed of this one
Another gift from the Ronettes – stick to the music yeah Phil?
Feed the scousers, Let them know it’s Christmas time…
Talking of scousers…
Mariah has come in at number 3 and nailed the sexy Santa. kudos.
Great acting from George in this one. He definitely wasn’t into that girl.
Coming in at number 1 is Stay Another Day. Bonafide megatune. If you aren’t moved by these cheeky chaps from East 17 , then you’re a fucking robot.
I’m very happy to have come across G Eazy. I discovered him a few days ago, and his album Endless Summer has dominated my ipod ever since. His affection for the 50’s is apparent in everything he does; his look is akin to James Dean whilst samples of The Beach Boys and Dion give a contemporary twist on classics. It’s a unique approach that separates him from your typical rapper. Endless Summer really is one of my favourite albums of 2011, what’s more – you can download it for free here. Cheers G Eazy. Enjoy
